Description by Frédéric Michaud:

The intrigating breccias have been analysed since the early XIXth century but attributed to an extinct volcano or some kind hydrologic event. The impact origin has been prooven in 1969 by François Kraut in association with Bevan M. French, and further studied in details by Philippe Lambert. The crater is deeply eroded. It is the first impact crater that has been found while no topographic structures are visible. The diameter is ranging from 18 to 25 km. The dating lies near or at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary between 298 and 186 My. The most recent (2009) analyse is yielding to an age of 201.4 +/- 2.4 My for sanidine samples and 200..5 +/- 2.2 My for adularia samples (2009), though the official date is 214.0 +/- 8.0 My.
